Special Screening & Drinks - A Fibreshed for London

Join Jessica Smulders Cohen, founder of the Greater London Fibreshed, as we present a very special screening of its launch film over drinks at the conclusion of our Social Good Summer. Be inspired with this initiative that brings the fashion ecosystem into balance with nature within the confines of the M25.

Meet Jessica....

"The Greater London Fibreshed has been created to establish London as a natural bioregion for all things textile and garment making – from the seed up. I have been doing a lot of research into where our clothes come from – and it’s no secret. My parents have just moved to Indonesia and live a few km away from the most polluted river in the world – whose colour changes daily depending on what chemical dyebatch is being washed away. 60% of people have skin conditions and babies are born strange shapes. No one dares to say anything though because they all depend on the factories for their livelihoods…

"Instead of trying to join forces with the likes of Greenpeace or People Tree, I have decided to make a change here. After all, if our habits don’t change as consumers, it will be very difficult to stop the supply chain at the source. So, I have set myself the challenge to build the necessary network needed to create a London based wardrobe. We have sheep, we have people who know how to spin, we have plenty of allotments and gardens where we can grow flax and hemp, we have dye gardens and local plants with amazing colours (not to mention food waste – onion skins and avocado skins produce the most amazing pinks!), we have weavers, knitters, designers, garment makers…so if we all work together we can make this happen." - Jessica Smulders Cohen
